Cave de Lugny ‘Coeur de Charmes’ Mâcon-Lugny 2017. Cave de Lugny began in the 18th century. Today, they’re the biggest Chardonnay producer in Burgundy. And they’re out to prove that fantastic white Burgundy doesn’t have to be eyewateringly expensive. This one is made from 40-year-old vines in a legendary area of Mâcon-Lugny, Plateau des Charmes. It’s aged on texture-building lees for no less than 15 months but, crucially, unoaked. As a result, it’s deliciously vibrant, with flavours of lemon, pineapple and grapefruit. As it’s now matured for five years, it’s wonderfully complex. It has a distinct aroma of gunflint which goes excellently with the saltiness of seafood..
