Château Cap de Mourlin Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé 2007. If you like your wine to come with some history, this bottle has plenty. Saint-Émilion claims to be the oldest wine-producing region of Bordeaux, with some evidence of winemaking dating back to Roman times, and its modern-day vineyards have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage site. Château Cap de Mourlin continues this theme – the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru estate has been in the same family for over 400 years. This wine has also been aged to perfection and we’ve been lucky to find this limited mature parcel. As is traditional in the region, it’s made with a majority of Merlot, supported by 25% of Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Expect notes of blackcurrant, vanilla and a hint of spice. 18 months barrel ageing adds structure and savoury flavour, making this a fitting match for red meats, like a herby rack of lamb..
