Château La Gaffelière 2014, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru. Owned by the Malet-Roquefort family for over 300 years, Château La Gaffelière is one of the Saint-Émilion region’s top-ranked châteaux. This is their first wine – a Merlot-dominant blend made with grapes from the estate’s best vineyard plots, and aged for 14 months in oak for fantastic smoothness and complexity. Celebrated critic James Suckling called this 2014 vintage ‘one of the best ever’ made by the château, and awarded it 94 points. You’ll find it rich and elegant, with flavours of black plum, blackberry, wild strawberry and liquorice spice. It’s drinking excellently now, but will continue to age well for another five years. Whenever you choose to open yours, its silky texture and mature flavours will pair beautifully with rich red meats like beef or venison..
