Donnafugata ‘Dea Vulcano’ Etna Rosso DOC 2018. Red wines from the slopes of Mount Etna are often hailed as the Burgundies of the Mediterranean. This striking example, made by one of Sicily’s top family estates, captures the elegance of the Etna Rosso region. It’s predominantly made up of Nerello Mascalese (almost exclusive to Mount Etna), with a small percentage of Nerello Cappuccio grapes. It’s aged for 14 months in both custom cement vats and French oak barrels, which introduces a touch of sweet spice to the red fruit flavour, while the ancient volcanic soils give the wine an elegant backbone of minerality. Expect rich red fruit notes and hints of sweet spice..
