Journey’s End ‘The Engineer’ Syrah 2018, Stellenbosch. For nearly 30 years the Gabb family, originally from Shropshire, have been tending their picturesque vineyards in the Schapenberg Hills of Stellenbosch. A blend of 350-million-year-old decomposed granite soils and refreshing south-eastern breezes rolling in from the Atlantic Ocean makes this an ideal spot for growing a range of varieties, including Syrah. Grapes for The Engineer were harvested slowly and carefully in warm weather from a block 180m above sea level, where a row of pine trees serves as windbreak. Youthful and complex, the resulting bottling has violet, cherry and white pepper aromas as well as subtle caramel notes from ageing in American oak. Try it with barbecued or meaty dishes..
