Sileni ‘The Sleeping Giant’ Chardonnay 2022, Hawke’s Bay. Established in 1997 by the Avery Family, Sileni Wines is named after the mythical companions to Dionysus: Greek God of Wine. They crush grapes in the Hawke’s Bay region, New Zealand’s oldest and second-largest wine-producing area, where plentiful sunshine hours and benign temperatures create ideal conditions for viticulture. Chardonnay is one of the flagship regional varieties and this is a very fine example, partly aged in French oak barriques. A fruit-driven wine with layers of citrus and stone fruit flavour, it shows fine acidity and balance. Full and rich, it’s the perfect bottle to open with salmon or creamy pasta dishes..
